5 Tips for your Life+Style Session

Life+style sessions are different than just a family session in your home. Its documentary. It’s where I am a fly on the wall in your home, observing your family being themselves. Capturing Those small things that happen everyday that are so ordinary, but precious. Being one of the top lifestyle photographers in Scottsdale and Phoenix, I’ve picked up some tips and tricks along the way. Here are 5 of my top tips to make sure your life+style session runs smoothly, reflects your family’s personality and is FUN!

  1. How does your family spend time together?

Make a list of activities your family does together like making breakfast, playing card games, baking cookies, playing catch outside, etc. These are the things that bring your family together, where everyone has a part, even if it’s just your baby sitting in the highchair, watching you fix waffles.

2. It’s all in the details

Think about the details! I am here to document your family just as you are. What are the small details in your life you want to remember? Teaching your 2 year old to brush his teeth, your 4 year old helping fold laundry, your 5 year old watching daddy shave, the toddler meltdowns over spilled goldfish, your post-partum body, or how your baby looks at you while you nurse. These small snip-its in life are so very brief, think about them, remember them, write them down so I can capture them for you.

3. Messy is best

Don’t worry about cleaning your house! There is something truly romantic about a perfectly imperfect family in a messy house. And I promise I can make even the ugliest pile of dirty laundry look magical :)

4. Be comfy

Make sure everyone is comfortable, even if that means the kiddos are in their PJ’s at 3 o’clock in the afternoon. If they’re anything like my kids, they would still be in their pj’s anyway. If your 18 month old is most comfortable in just a diaper, perfect! The more comfortable you and your family are, the more relaxed everyone will be!

5. Be yourself

Be authentic. Be real. be raw. The point of life+style sessions are to capture the reality of parenthood and childhood, not create Christmas cards :) However, you will probably love them so much, you’ll want everyone to see!
